We all know how important it is for us to stay active. We don’t all necessarily have to turn into gym bunnies or start running ultra marathons but we all have to get moving regularly. Exercising does take time, there is no denying that and if you workout at the gym, you need to factor in the time it takes to get there, to get home etc. A one hour class can quickly turn into a two hour trip. A quick run is only quick if you have someone to watch the kids. But you do have the time to work out.
Very quickly it is easier to skip gym than battle the traffic or stop trying to figure out child care than it is to actually work out. And before you know it, you can’t remember the last time you actually raised your heart rate.
Despite all of this, you DO have the time to work out and you need to make it a priority.
Find a workout routine that you can do at home. YouTube has thousands of trainers who have put together really great workouts that you can do at home without any equipment. There are workouts for all fitness levels and some are over an hour but others are 15 minutes. It may take a few tries until you find one that works for you but keep going.
Involve the kids instead of trying to do it without them. If you are a runner, take them with in their stroller or find a safe park and run around there while they play (yeah I know not very stimulating). Get them to join in the workout with you. Take them to the pool as well.
Find something you enjoy. This one is easier said than done because some people just don’t enjoy any form of working out. If you really don’t enjoy working out, find something else to keep you active – go hiking, walk the dog regularly, join a dance class or even work in your garden, whatever you are doing just make sure you are increasing your heart rate.
Put it in your diary! Add working out to your daily schedule, if you have it in your diary, you are more likely to actually do it.
Regular exercise is not about dieting or trying to lose weight, it is more about staying fit and healthy and taking time out for you.
